Our history: The story of the Winkelmann Group from 1898 to the present day
The company’s story begins in 1898 when Heinrich Winkelmann and Caspar Pannhoff established Winkelmann + Pannhoff GmbH. Originally a manufacturer of raw materials for the enamel industry, we quickly grew to become a modern medium-sized company. Today, we are a leading global group of companies for industrial solutions of high-performance and energy-efficient components and systems energy-efficient components and systems. Growth was successfully achieved by establishing new sales-focused subsidiaries and acquiring companies which allowed us to broaden our lines of business and systematically expand our activities to other markets. During the expansion phases within our company’s history, the focus was always on producing efficiently, conducting the research and development required for the respective product segment as well as achieving technical perfection in manufacturing. Join us on a journey through the milestones of our history.

In 1898, Heinrich Winkelmann and Caspar Pannhoff founded the handicraft company Winkelmann + Pannhoff GmbH in Ahlen. The company produces enamelware blanks from which, for example, kettles, milk and coffee pots, soap basins and dustpans are made.

The production facilities are expanded to include tinning lines, another mainstay. The tinning plant (photo) proves to be a lifeline during the world economic crisis. During this time, we receive foreign currency of stable value through the flourishing trade with the Netherlands.
We are allowed to continue producing raw enamelware, because the manufacture of milk cans and dairy equipment is considered essential to the war effort to supply the population. When our partly empty production halls are recalled, we are still commissioned with the production of bazookas in the last weeks of the war.

In the post-war period, our product range changes decisively. We change from a manufacturer of enameled household items to a sheet steel converter and produce special parts needed, for example, in mechanical engineering and heating and water technology.

In 1961 a new era begins for our company: For the first time we produce parts for the automotive industry, at that time sheet metal parts for the Borgward Arabella, a mid-size car of the Lloyd Motorenwerke in Bremen, which belongs to the Borgward Group.

Today, our steel service operates under the name Winkelmann Metal Solutions GmbH.
Our company restructures. From now on, Winkelmann & Pannhoff GmbH Umformtechnik mainly produces engine and transmission parts for the automotive industry. The production of simple household items, on the other hand, becomes less and less important.
